Eight-time champions Vipers crowned as UPL season ends

Vipers SC were officially crowned champions of the 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season after beating Express 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on the final day of the campaign on Saturday.

The title triumph marked Vipers’ eighth league crown since the inception of the national league in 1968.

Karim Watambala gave the hosts the lead two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after Yunus Sentamu had been brought down inside the area. Substitute Gusto Mulongo added the second goal in the 69th minute with a well-taken finish to seal victory for the Venoms, who ended the season on 67 points, five ahead of runners-up KCCA.

In the absence of FUFA President Moses Magogo, Second Vice President Taibu Azar handed the trophy to Vipers captain Milton Karisa alongside club patron Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa. The league Board chairperson, Arinaitwe Deo Rugyendo, and representatives from league sponsors StarTimes, were also present. Celebrations followed at Kitende as fans marked the club’s latest league success.

At Lugogo, KCCA signed off the season with a 4-1 victory over Mbarara City. Golden Boot winner with 14 goals – Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Etienne Katenga, Emmanuel Anyama and Kennedy Muserero were all on target for the Kasasiro Boys.

Mbarara City captain Clinton Kamugisha scored the visitors’ consolation while Karim Ramadhan was sent off late in the game. SC Villa finished third on the table with 61 points after beating UPDF 2-1. Isaac Mpagi and Patrick Kakande scored for the Jogoos while Emmanuel Manu Ochen netted for the visitors.
