2026 FIFA World Cup : Netherlands condemn racist abuse

The Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber, and Crysencio Summerville following the Netherlands’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The three Dutch internationals received hateful and discriminatory messages on social media after missing penalties in the shootout defeat to Morocco in the Round of 32.

The KNVB described the comments as discriminatory, racist, and unacceptable. The federation confirmed that it will file a complaint with the Dutch “Meld Online Discrimination” agency and will explore every available legal option against those responsible. The governing body also reaffirmed that racism has no place in football or society.

The Dutch federation also recalled similar incidents that targeted England internationals Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho after the UEFA EURO 2020 final. By taking legal action and publicly supporting its players, the KNVB hopes to send a strong message that football must remain a sport built on respect, equality, and inclusion.
