2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Harry Kane Reflects on England’s Heartbreak After Late Argentina Defeat

England captain Harry Kane has admitted his disappointment after the Three Lions fell short in their World Cup semi-final clash against Argentina, despite showing determination and resilience throughout the tournament.

England looked on course for a place in the final after taking the lead through Anthony Gordon in the 54th minute, but Argentina mounted a late comeback, with Enzo Fernández equalising before Lautaro Martínez struck in stoppage time to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Kane praised his teammates for their commitment and mental strength but conceded that England were unable to handle Argentina’s late pressure when it mattered most.

“We were under a lot of pressure, put in a lot of effort and showed great mental resilience,” Kane said.

The England skipper highlighted the team’s journey to the semi-finals, insisting that the players had given everything in their pursuit of World Cup glory.

“We gave it our all to get this far, but in the final minutes today, nothing went to plan. We didn’t manage it.”

The defeat ends England’s hopes of reaching Sunday’s World Cup final, while Argentina advance to face Spain in a highly anticipated showdown for football’s biggest prize. For Kane and his teammates, the result represents another painful near miss on the international stage.
