Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare delivered a sensational performance on Thursday evening, scoring twice and providing an assist as AFC Ajax recorded a commanding 6-1 victory over FC Midtjylland at the MCH Arena in the UEFA Conference League phase.
The 25-year-old striker opened the scoring in the ninth minute, showing excellent attacking instincts to latch onto a through ball from Oscar Gloukh before calmly finding the back of the net to give Ajax an early advantage.
Midtjylland briefly fought their way back into the contest, but their hopes suffered a major setback in the 43rd minute when midfielder Kjell Wätjen was sent off, leaving the Danish hosts with 10 men for the remainder of the encounter.
Ajax capitalised on their numerical advantage after the break, with Arokodare doubling his tally in the 52nd minute after being set up by Abdellah Ouazane. The Nigerian then turned provider seven minutes later, laying on an assist for Owen Wijndal to extend the visitors’ lead.
Arokodare was substituted in the 70th minute after an outstanding individual display, having contributed directly to three goals through his two strikes and assist.
His performance underlined his growing importance to Ajax’s attacking setup as the Dutch giants celebrated an emphatic 6-1 away victory, delivering a memorable night for the Nigerian international.
