Transfers Done Deal: Arsenal’s Sambi Lokonga joins Luton Town on loan

Luton Town completed the signing of Belgium midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old made 15 appearances for the Gunners last season before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Crystal Palace, playing nine times. “Sambi Lokonga has joined Luton Town on loan for the 2023-24 season,” confirmed Arsenal, adding: “Belgium international midfielder Albert, known as Sambi, featured 15 times for us in all competitions last season – notably starting every game in our successful Europa League group stage campaign – before joining Crystal Palace on loan for the second half of the season. He made nine appearances for the Eagles, impressing in the centre of the park, to help steer them to Premier League safety.”

In his early career, Sambi spent more than a decade with Belgian side Anderlecht before joining us in July 2021. He made his first-team debut aged 18 in December 2017 and went on to represent his hometown club 78 times in all competitions.

He became the Hatters’ 12th signing since their promotion to the Premier League. Luton have begun the season with three straight losses, with the latest a 2-1 home defeat by West Ham on Friday.
