Olympic Games CAF Olympics qualifier: Ajibade Goal Hands Falcons Win Banyana Banyana

The first leg of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games final qualifiers took place in Abuja on Friday, with Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeating South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 1-0 thanks to a late first-half penalty converted by Rasheedat Ajibade.

The Falcons have not defeated South Africa on penalties since winning the 2018 WAFCON championship.

Following a foul on Chiwendu Ihezuo inside the area, Ajibade scored in the 43rd minute.

In the second leg, which takes place in Pretoria on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the Falcons will aim for at least a draw.

The winner of the two legs will select one of two Olympic tickets for Paris in 2024.

The Falcons did not participate in the Olympics in London 2012, Rio 2016 or Tokyo 2020 after making an appearance at the Beijing 2008 games.

The Falcons’ finest Olympic performance occurred in 2004 when they advanced to the quarterfinals in Athens.

Zambia and Morocco will compete in the other qualifier in the meantime.
