CAF Champions League CAFCL: TP Mazembe Settle For Draw With Petro Luanda

In the first leg of their quarterfinal matchup in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, TP Mazembe and Petro de Luanda, the former champions, battled to a goalless draw on Saturday in Lubumbashi.

At the Stade du TP Mazembe, the game concluded in a tight draw, with the host team missing multiple scoring opportunities.

The DR Congo giants dominated the whole game and pinned their opponents on their half, but they were unable to take advantage of multiple scoring opportunities.

Six obvious opportunities were wasted by the home team, leading to a frustrating draw.

Cheick Fofana, Oscar Tshikomb, and Glody Likonza were the main offenders for the team’s missed opportunities.

Petro de Luanda shown their defensive resiliency in the weeks leading up to the match.

They had not given up a goal in the competition this year, and their defence held firm throughout.

Hugo Marques, the custodian for Petro de Luanda, had just the stopper at his disposal when he denied Tshikomb twice and then Fofana wide.

Because of this, the match finished in a disheartening goalless draw for the home team, placing the tie in a precarious position going into the second leg.

The second leg, which is expected to take place at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Saturday of next week, will now be the centre of attention.

Even if they were unable to win at home, TP Mazembe will be motivated to bounce back and play well in the second leg in an attempt to advance to the semifinals.

In the end, the rematch match will determine whether side advances to the tournament’s final four.
