CAF Champions League CAFCL: Africa Elite Clubs Begin Quest For Glory On Friday

The group rounds of the 2023–24 edition of the league officially begin on Friday across the continent, marking the return of Africa’s best club football competition, the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

It is now down to the 16 clubs that have been divided into the four groups of four to resume their continental quest for glory after an intensive preliminary round that witnessed some surprising results and upsets.

The competition officially begins in Egypt on Friday, November 24 when Pyramids welcomes TP Mazembe, the five-time champions who are eager to win on the continent after their last Champions League title in 2015.

Simba AC will play the Ivorian giants Asec Mimmosas on Saturday afternoon in Tanzania in a Group B match that is sure to spark pyrotechnics throughout the eastern portion of the continent.

Later that evening, ES Tunis and ES Sahel will square off in a Tunisian duel with the goal of returning the trophy to Tunisia, where ES Tunis last won it in 2019.

The competition’s record holders, Al Ahly, take on Ghanaian team Medeama in Cairo in another thrilling match up north as they attempt to retain their crown.

As they host the highly motivated Jwaneng Galaxy on Saturday night, the runners-up from the previous season, Wydad AC, will be hoping to swiftly move over their African Football League setback. On Sunday afternoon, Mamelodi Sundowns, who just won the AFL, will take on Nouadhibou of Mauritania.
