FIFA World Cup Rwanda to play Benin and Lesotho on neutral grounds

Rwanda will lock horns with Benin and Lesotho respectively in next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers on neutral grounds.

Amavubi will face Benin at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on June 6 before coming up against Lesotho at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa on June 11.

Benin had fronted its Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou to host the World Cup qualifier tie against Rwanda, but the venue was rejected by CAF.

Lesotho’s Setsoto Stadium also suffered a similar fate as it was not approved by CAF because it did not meet the required standards. The last time Rwanda played an away game on a neutral ground was on June 2, 2022 when they drew 1-1 with Mozambique in a 2023 AFCON qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Rwanda is on top of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers Africa Zone Group B with four points.
