COSAFA COSAFA CUP: Hoareau Salvage Seychelles From Lesotho Claws

Lesotho, last year’s Cosafa Cup finalists, were held to a 1-1 draw by Seychelles in the opening Group C encounter on Friday, snapping the islanders’ seven-game losing streak in the competition dating back to 2019.

It is Seychelles’ sixth draw in the COSAFA Cup, with one win and 27 defeats, thus there is cause for celebration.

Jane Thabantso, who scored the quickest goal in COSAFA Cup history in 34 seconds against Mauritius in 2016, opened the scoring for Lesotho after 19 minutes.

It is his seventh career goal in the competition, tying him with Motebang Sera for the most COSAFA Cup goals in Lesotho and two behind Eswatini’s Felix Badenhorst.

However, Lesotho was unable to hold on, and Seychelles scored an equaliser midway through the second half through Lorenzo Hoareau, earning a point.
