The influence of Moroccan coaching expertise on Jordanian football continues to grow as the Jordan Football Association (JFA) has swiftly appointed Jamal Sellami as the new head coach of the national team, replacing his compatriot Hussein Ammouta.

Ammouta, who departed due to personal circumstances, leaves behind a significant legacy despite his short tenure.

The 54-year-old Moroccan led Jordan to their first-ever AFC Asian Cup final earlier this year, a remarkable achievement that included victories over footballing powerhouses such as South Korea and Iraq.

Under Ammouta’s guidance, Jordan also impressed in the second round of AFC qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026, topping a challenging group that included Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan.

His impact on the team was evident, with star forward Mousa Al-Tamari recently praising Ammouta’s influence as “clear for all to see.”

The JFA expressed their gratitude for Ammouta’s contributions, stating that his tenure “will always be remembered with gratitude from the Jordanian football family and Jordanian fans.”
