Hearts of Oak Duo Asare and Agbasi Earn Black Stars Call-Up for World Cup Preparations

Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad for Ghana’s final preparation camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeepers Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbasi emerging as the only home-based players selected for the Black Stars setup.

The squad has assembled in Cardiff as the Ghana national football team step up preparations for the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Both Hearts of Oak shot-stoppers have been rewarded for their impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League, with Agbasi particularly earning recognition following a string of consistent displays for the Phobians throughout the season.

Their inclusion highlights Queiroz’s willingness to keep an eye on the domestic league despite the increasing number of foreign-based players in the national team setup.

The Black Stars are expected to use the camp and their upcoming international friendly against Wales as part of the final assessment process before the squad is reduced to 26 players for the World Cup.

For Asare and Agbasi, the call-up represents a major opportunity to stake their claim for a place on football’s biggest stage while also showcasing the quality still present within Ghana’s domestic league.
