CAF Champions League Mosimane focuses on ‘difficult’ Sundowns after win over Al-Merrikh

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has said his team needs to build on the 3-2 win over Al Merrikh when facing Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa this Saturday.

Mosimane spoke to Al Ahly website after the hard fought win over the Sudanese side in the CAF Champions League group A game played at Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium on Saturday.

Of course, it will be very difficult to play against Mamelodi Sundowns; however, we are Al Ahly also and we are not afraid,” he said.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor, who is chasing a record third Champions League consecutive title with Al Ahly, admitted that Al Merrikh gave the defending champions a good run for their money.

“I’ve never seen my team so good in the first ten minutes of a game like today. Al Merrikh wasn’t afraid to attack us despite conceding a goal very early in the game. We had several chances to score but we made the wrong pass in the end,” Mosimane said.

It was not an easy game. Al Merrikh played well against Sundowns. Thank God, we were able to score three goals and win the three points. In our previous game, we scored four goals despite not having a lot of chances against Pharco.”

Mohamed Sherif’s brace and a goal from Amr El Soulia earned Al Ahly the win over Al Merrick who netted through Tony Edjomariegwe and Elsamani Saadeldin.

The Egyptian giants have since moved from third to second place in the group on four points from three games at par with Al Merrikh whereas Sundowns lead with seven points.
