Transfer window The mind-blowing story behind Osimhen’s failed move to Liverpool

Osimhen Liverpool

Victor Osimhen could have joined Liverpool in 2020, but the deal collapsed when Napoli used an absolute unbelievable strategy to sign him.

The Super Eagle only lasted one season in France where he scored 18 goals in 38 appearances with Lille.

Before leaving the club, Osimhen had several offers on the table and the Nigerian striker was tempted to join Liverpool as his dream league is the Premier League.

However, Napoli jumped in the discussions and used an unbelievable way to hijack him.

The behind-the-scene story has been told by Giandomenico Costi who was Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli’s collaborator during negotiations.

“The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece,” he told Tuttosport, as per Football Italia.

“He [Osimhen] was locked in a hotel for three days. Giuntoli knew Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spoke to Osimhen in the hotel for three days until he convinced him to accept Napoli.”

Three years later, Osimhen is probably not regretting his choice as he won the Serie A title and will probably finish as the league’s top scorer.

However, this summer is another chance for him to sign in Premier League even though Napoli does not intend to sell him.
