Kenyan Premier League Shabana FC thrash Darajani Gogo to inch closer to NSL title

Shabana FC remained on course to be crowned the NSL champions after defeating Darajani Gogo 3-0 in a fixture played at Posta Sacco.

Cheered on by a huge crowd led by the newly elected chairman for the team’s funds drive Sam Nyamweya, the Kisii-based Glamour Boys scored through captain Peter Ogechi, who grabbed a double and substitute Nehemiah Onjiri, to collect maximum points and move to 67 points on the table.

“My mission with Shabana is not complete yet, yes we have already sealed our ticket to play in the Premier League next season, but we also want to finish the season as the champions, so it is why we played as we did and we want to win all our remaining matches,” Shabana coach said Sammy Okoth after the game.

Speaking after the game, Nyamweya, who is a former FKF President, thanked Kenya’s Education CS Ezekiel Machogu for coming in to support the team by saying: “As part of the moment to regain its past glory, I wish to thank Machogu, who in collaboration with Gusii Professionals Forum led by chairperson CAS Joash Maang’i and the club leadership, organised a lunch-cum-fundraiser for the players on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

“I also appreciate the support of the Gusii MPs led by Chief Whip and South Mugirango legislator Silvanus Osoro for their support and encouragement to the players. It was not only a morale booster for the boys but the signalling of the community’s intent to ensure that Shabana stays in the premier league and actualises its dream of lifting the top soccer trophy in the country.”

Nyamweya further called upon the Gusii community to support the team: “I, therefore, call upon all leaders irrespective of their political affiliations or otherwise and the industrious Kisii Diaspora in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and elsewhere to back and resource the club to realise its potential and help harness our youth’s talent.”

Shabana have three matches remaining to end the season, starting with a home game against MCF on June 27, away to Muranga Seal on July 2, and finish off with a game against Kisumu All Stars on July 8.
