Premier League Brentford defender Ben Mee signs on a new one-year contract

Brentford defender Ben Mee has signed a new one-year contract.Mee has made 58 appearances for the Bees since signing as a free agent in July 2022, 55 of which have come in the Premier League.

The experienced centre-back missed just one league game last season and helped Thomas Frank’s side keep 12 clean sheets. He was named 2022-23 Supporters’ Player of the Year and his acrobatic strike in the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in October 2022 – one of five goals he has scored for the club – was nominated for Goal of the Season.

Mee made a further 18 outings this term before suffering a season-ending ankle injury during the Bees’ 4-2 defeat to West Ham United in February.

“Ben was a really good signing in the summer of 2022,” said Brentford director of football Phil Giles. “He was exactly what we needed at that point and deserved the accolades he got in his first season with us.

“He was unlucky with injuries last season but has been recovering well from the season-ending injury he got at West Ham, so we expect him to be taking part in pre-season one way or another.

“He is an important and popular member of the squad, so I’m really pleased he is with us next season too.”
