Kenya Stop signing foreign coaches – Ababu to Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards

Kenya’s Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has warned Kenyan giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to desist from hiring services of foreign coaches and players saying it putting them in problems.

His comments came after Gor Mahia while kicked out of the Caf Champions League for failure to pay three players – Sando Yangayay, Jules Ulimwengu, and Adama Keita – their accrued salaries and allowances totaling Ksh5 million while AFC have a case of Kh20million with world governing body FIFA for allegedly breaching the contract of Belgian coach Patrick Aussems, who left the Den, at the end of last season.

“Every day when you wake up, there is a crisis at Gor Mahia, there is a crisis at AFC Leopards, this must stop, honestly,” Namwamba said, adding: “All these problems are brought about by their decision to sign foreign coaches and players, why are we going to fish talent from elsewhere whereas we have our very own, who can do the job even better?”

Namwamba continued: “We have competed coaches in the country, who can effectively take charge at either Gor or AFC, for example, we have Robert (Matano), a veteran, who has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he has the needed experience to coach anywhere in the world, we have Francis Kimanzi, we have Nick Yakhama, so why sign coaches and players, who will leave you in trouble when they terminate contracts?

On Gor and AFC signing foreign players, Namwamba said: “Gor Mahia and AFC officials should from now on attend school games in the country to tap talent, we have good quality coming out of the school games, we need to start somewhere and it is these two clubs that need to lead the way. They rush to sign players from Mali, I don’t know Ivory Coast and later they are in problems because they cannot afford to pay them.”

The Kenyan league season is set to kick off on August 26.
