Kimani’s last stint as a coach in the top flight was on May 23 when he was fired by Bandari FC following a string of poor results. He had joined Dockers in February of 2021 as assistant coach to the then tactician Andre Casa Mbungo, who was later fired with Kimani upgraded to take charge of the Mombasa-based side.

Ulinzi were in the market for a coach following the exit of Bernard Mwalala, who later replaced Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno at KCB.
