Nigeria Premier League Nigeria Premier League 2023-2024 Season To Begin August 26

The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) management has announced that the 2023–24 season will begin on August 26.

The 2023–24 season drawings and the annual general meeting will take place on August 17, one week prior to the league season kickoff. The body’s chairman, Mr. Gbenga Elegbeleye, revealed this.

Elegbeleye, who left a meeting with club owners in Abuja on Thursday night, said that the league, which would have a complete schedule of 38 matches, will begin on June 26 and continue through June 27.

He claimed that all of the clubs have declared their intent to adhere to the date and that they are ready to start taking action.

They have all agreed with the date and are going back to start preparations for the new season. They are all 100 per cent ready,” Elegbeleye explained.

The General Manager of Rivers United and Spokesman of NPL Club Owners, Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, also commented on the clubs’ preparation. He stated the clubs are prepared for the kickoff date, which would run its full course of 38 matches and not shortened like previous season.

He clarified that it is the responsibility of the League Board and Managers to ensure that the league proceeds as planned.

Regarding the Club’s readiness, he stated that the majority of clubs participate in preseason tournaments across the nation to get their team ready for the upcoming challenge.

“For instance Rivers United have unveiled their players for next season so also some other clubs and this has shown that they are all ready. We have been engaged in pre-seson friendlies and recruited few more players. Every team is good to go.
