Kenya Nzoia Sugar appoint Godfrey Oduor to replace Salim Babu

FKF Premier League outfit Nzoia Sugar have settled for Godfrey Oduor as their coach ahead of the new season which kicks off on August 26.

The Sugar Millers were left coachless after Salim Babu resigned at the end of last season to join Kenya Police, where he will be assistant to Francis Baraza. New Nzoia chairman Yapets Ngisa Mokua confirmed they had handed Oduor a two-year contract to handle the side.

“We have appointed Oduor to replace Babu and he has signed a two-year contract,” said Mokua, adding: “We had a huge list of coaches who had applied for the job but we felt Oduor has what it takes to take from where Babu left and take the team forward.”

Oduor is not new to Nzoia as he coached the side in 2019. He also coached Kibera Black Stars, was the deputy to Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno at KCB, and also had a similar role at Tusker.

Speaking on his appointment, Oduor said: “My return is welcomed by the club, and I am happy. I understand the pressure that comes with my job, but I chose not to see that as pressure but as an opportunity to grow as a coach,” adding: “When one chooses to focus on the pressure, that may make achieving set goals an impossible adventure, but seeing it as an opportunity to experience a new challenge is set to bring success. I am confident, and I look forward to a good time ahead.”

Nzoia finished fourth last season after amassing 64 points from 34 matches. They managed 18 wins, 10 draws and suffered six defeats.
