FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP US Women’s Team Coach, Andonovski Resigns After World Cup

Following the team’s disappointing performance in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Vlatko Andonovski, the coach of the United States women’s team, has resigned, according to American media on Wednesday.

ESPN, 90 min. Andonovski’s resignation would officially be announced on Thursday, according to The Athletic and other sources.

An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by a US Soccer Federation spokesman.

The USA left a World Cup earlier than any other team ever did when Sweden eliminated them in the round of 16, following a penalty shootout.

Under Jill Ellis’ leadership, the Americans won the past two World Cups in 2015 and 2019.

After making his reputation in the National Women’s Soccer League, Andonovski, a North Macedonian-born American, took over the squad in October 2019.

After falling to eventual victors Canada in the semifinals, the USA won a bronze medal under Andonovski at the Tokyo Olympics.

According to The Athletic, the team’s assistant coach Twila Kilgore will take over as acting head coach.
