Nigeria Premier League NRA President Wants VAR To Be Used In This Season NPL

The Nigeria Referees Association’s president, Sanni Zubair, has made preparations to use Video Assistant Referees (VAR) in the Nigeria Professional Football League beginning with the 2023–24 season.

This statement is made just before the first game of the new season, which will be played in Ibadan between 3SC and Plateau United.

Zubair thinks that the use of VAR will improve referee performance, especially given that the majority of league games will now be webcast utilising recently purchased AI cameras.

The NRA President highlighted current VAR debates and voiced hope for the technology’s eventual season-opening introduction.

Additionally, the NRA is eagerly awaiting plans to install VAR facilities in a few regional stadiums across the nation, which were previously revealed by Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau.

Assuring that referees would obtain the necessary instruction to meet international standards, Zubair emphasised the significance of keeping up with technical developments in football refereeing.
