AFCON Afcon 2023: Nigeria will not beat Sao Tome 10-0 again – Peseiro

Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro had admitted it will be difficult to repeat their previous big win against Sao Tome and Principe when the two sides face off in their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday.

During the first meeting between the two sides held in June, the Super Eagles defeated the True Patriots 10-0 but according to the Portuguese tactician, he is not expecting a repeat of results when they face off again on Sunday.

“We want to win this game. We occupy the top position in our group and want to finish there,” Peseiro told a press conference, adding: “We beat them (Sao Tome and Principe) in the first leg but it will be difficult to have a repeat of the same scoreline.”

He said: “We are taking the game seriously and thinking about the fact that we have already qualified for the World Cup,” the vice-captain told a press conference on Saturday,” adding: “If you see the boys in training, everyone has worked real hard, not thinking about whether we have qualified or not.

“We want to make the fans happy by putting up a good performance on Sunday. Uyo has always been a good ground for us. We had a good run here during the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. You can be sure we will do our best to make Nigerians proud.”

The Super Eagles have already earned a place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast.
