African players abroad Iheanacho sets new record after Leicester defeat Swansea

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho set a new record after scoring in consecutive league games with Leicester City’s 3-1 win against Swansea City in a Championship game at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday.

The Super Eagle was named in the matchday squad for the away fixture and was brought in to replace Jamie Vardy with six minutes of regulation time left. Three minutes after Iheanacho hopped off the bench, to seal the Foxes’ win by scoring a crucial third goal to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.

This was the first time in Iheanacho’s professional career that he has managed to score in four consecutive league games, a run that started on October 1 against Blackburn Rovers. Since his strike against Rovers, he has scored in back-to-back games against Preston North End, Stoke City, and Swansea City.

Iheanacho’s previous best was in the 2020-21 season when he scored in three consecutive Premier League games on two different occasions – March and April 2021. Iheanacho was introduced into the game in the 83rd minute, and it took him just three minutes to make his impact felt as he scored in the 87th minute.

Iheanacho has so far scored six goals and registered two assists in 14 league appearances this season. His international teammate, Wilfred Ndidi, was in action for 90 minutes in the game. The Foxes have now won 11 out of their 12 matches in the Sky Bet Championship this season.
