Nigerian Players abroad Aina Opens Goal Account With Forest In Win Against Aston Villa

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina scored his first goal in Nottingham Forest 2-0 win against Aston Villa in the Midlands derby on Sunday.

It was Aina’s first goal for the club since he joined the club in the summer transfer window.

Villa’s six-game winning streak came to an end in the loss, and Unai Emery’s team was now five points behind leaders Manchester City in fifth place.

Meanwhile, Forest improved to 12th place by keeping their first clean sheet at home this year.

Anthony Elanga’s dash down the left gave the hosts the lead five minutes in, sending Villa’s high defensive line reeling.

Forest had not won a game since early September.

Harry Toffolo received it when Elanga cut it back, and he placed the ball in the midfield gap created by the retreating defence and the unmarked player.

Aina fired a low stroke that flew into the bottom corner, pulling the trigger from range.

The City Ground exploded in celebration after Aina’s maiden goal for the team. Emiliano Martinez of Villa, who had just won the Lev Yashin award for being the world’s finest custodian at the Ballon d’Or gala, watched in shock.

The goal startled Villa, who soon dominated possession but Forest defended valiantly to repeatedly deny the visitors.

By the end of the first half, Villa had taken six corners, but they were unable to make any progress.

Similar to the previous half, Martinez’s unusual mistake early in the second half allowed Forest to score another goal from outside the area.

Martinez attempted to stop Mangala’s fierce shot with one hand, but the Argentine could only watch as the ball rose into the air and bounced inside the line beyond his reach.

The visitors made a valiant effort to get back into the game, but Steve Cooper’s team managed to hold on for the clean sheet and their first Premier League victory at home against Villa.
