Jose Poseiro

Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Jose Poseiro says two of the national team major players will not be called-up this month for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

After missing out of 2018 World Cup in Russia and 2022 in Qatar, Niegeria aims to qualify for the upcoming in Mexico and the United States.

To do so, the Super Eagles have to make a good start in the qualifiers with Lesotho being their first opponent next week (November 16) and Zimbabwe three days later (November 19).

However, the Nigerian national team could not count on all of it’s assets as Jose Peseiro confirmed two major absentees.

“Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen will not be called up during the next break; we want to avoid any risks,” Peseiro told TV Play.

“I was very sorry for their injuries: the clubs pay the players, and we constantly collaborate with them.”

The AC Milan right-winger has a hamstring injury and is expected to make his return after the international break while the Napoli goal-getter is due to come back in the same period with the same injury.
