Kenya ‘It will be painful and shameful for Shabana to be relegated’ – Mbegera

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Kisii County Jezreel Mbegera has called on Shabana’s top brass to urgently move with speed and address the root course of the current poor results in the Premier League.

The Kisii-based Glamour Boys are taking part in the top-flight after 17 years in the cold but they have found the going tough as they are languishing at the lower reaches of the 18-team table. Tore Bobe are sitting 17th on the log with seven points from 10 matches same number of points as bottom-placed Sofapaka. They have managed one win, four draws, and suffered five defeats.

“We are greatly concerned about the stream of poor performance of Shabana in the recent past,” Mbegera told Africa Top Sports, adding: “We hereby implore the fans to keep cool and calm as the management gets us back to winning ways.”

He added: “The management should urgently move with speed and address the root course of poor performances. We cannot afford the shame and pain of going to relegation should that unfortunate scenario befall us. We urgently need to remain focused and return to winning ways now.”

Following the spate of poor results, Shabana parted ways with head coach Sammy Okoth with his assistant Oscar Kambona being elevated to take charge on an interim basis. Apart from Okoth, the team also fired goalkeeper trainer Collins Oduor with immediate effect.

Africa Top Sports now understands that Tore Bobe are already in talks to hire the services of former Kenya Police coach Francis Baraza. Okoth became the fourth coach to be shown the exit door in the league this season after Baraza, Sofapaka’s Francis Haringingo, and Tom Juma at AFC Leopards.

In the same breath, Shabana have also made changes to their playing unit with George Orako Onyango being named the interim captain, Justine Omwando Maasai first assistant captain, and Rodgers Aloro second assistant captain. They have replaced Benard Otieno, who was the captain, and his assistant Peter Ogechi.

Shabana will next face Nzoia Sugar at Homabay Stadium on Sunday.
