Tanzania Simba SC’s poor run continues after Namungo FC draw

SimbaSC settled a 1-1 Tanzanian Premier League draw against Namungo FC in their eighth match of the season at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.

The Wekundu wa Msimbazi went into the fixture seeking a quick response having been demolished 5-1 by their bitter rivals and champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) in their previous fixture but it was Namungo, who took the lead in the 28th minute courtesy of Reliants Lusajo.

Simba, who recently fired their Brazilian head coach Roberto Oliviera following the defeat by Yanga, continued to toil for the equalizer and they were forced to wait until the 75th minute when Jean Baleke balanced the equation.

With the outcome, the Reds have accumulated 19 points same as Azam FC but the former will remain third courtesy of goal difference. “We had a big chance to win the match but a 1-1 draw is not bad either,” said Namungo coach Denis Kitambi after the game.

Simba’s caretaker coach Daniel Cadena admitted they will have to work hard to do well in their next league fixture. “It is not the result we wanted, our plan was to bounce back to winning ways but we failed to break down a resilient Namungo side,” said Cadena, adding: “We had to be patient to get a win but it never came.

“Our focus now is on the next match which we must win at all costs.”
