Women Football Ghana’s Black Queens ranked 4th in Africa behind Nigeria

The Black Queens of Ghana have been ranked fourth in Africa in the latest FIFA ranking, just behind Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco, who are ranked first, second, and third respectively.

Under the leadership of Nora Hauptle, the team has improved massively and has qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) slated for June next year in Morocco.

The Black Queens gained qualification after recording three wins, one defeat, and also scored 15 goals and conceded two in the process. The next outing for the team will be in February next year as they come up against Zambia in the third round of the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s Copper Queens dropped one place in the December FIFA World Rankings from 69 to 70. Despite that, they have leapfrogged Ivory Coast, who dropped five places to occupy the sixth spot in Africa from seventh.

All African teams in the top ten except Mali have dropped in the latest rankings, with Cameroon dropping twelve places from 56 to 68. South Africa is the second country with the highest drop in Africa’s top ten, from 45 to 52 in the world but remains second on the continent.
