Dstv Premiership DStv Premiership: Mamelodi Drop Points As SuperSport Stun Pirates

SuperSport United defeated Orlando Pirates to increase their prospects of winning the DStv Premiership, while Mamelodi Sundowns lost their perfect record on matchday 15.

After securing a 0-0 draw against the league leaders at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, Cape Town City emerged victorious and ended Mamelodi Sundowns’ unbeaten start to the season.

Although their lead was reduced to five points as the Citizens moved up to third in the standings, the Brazilians continued their unbeaten streak in the top flight to 26 games.

Following their 3-1 victory over Orlando Pirates on Saturday night at Peter Mokaba Stadium, SuperSport United closed the gap on Masandawana.

Fortune Makaringe gave the Buccaneers the lead in the fifth minute, but Shandre Campbell (36′, 74′) and Bradley Grobler (56′) goals sealed the comeback victory for Matsatsantsa.

Pirates fell to fourth place after losing for the first time in seven games, while Gavin Hunt’s team moved three points clear of City in second place.

At the FNB Stadium earlier in the day, Kaizer Chiefs defeated Richards Bay 1-0 to extend their winning streak to three games.

The Glamour Boys tied Stellenbosch (5th) on 25 points as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s goal in the 42nd minute ended the match in Nasrec. However, they trailed them in goals scored. After suffering their ninth loss of the season, the Natal Rich Boyz are currently seven points outside of safety in the 15th position.

Samir Nurkovic (72′) and Nkosikhona Radebe (85′) scored goals in the second half to give TS Galaxy a 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium.

Abafana Bes’thende’s bad play continued as they lost for the sixth straight game, dropping them to eighth place. The Rockets moved within two points of the top eight in eleventh place.

At the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Polokwane City defeated Chippa United 2-1 to resume their winning ways. Meanwhile, at the Harry Gwala Stadium, Royal AM and Moroka Swallows drew 0-0.

Rise And Shine moved up to seventh place in the standings with a first-half brace from Oswin Appollis (16′, 24′). Ayabulela Konqobe (66′) pulled one back for the Chilli Boys, who dropped to 12th in the standings.

The Cape Town Spurs then secured their fourth point at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night, drawing 1-1 with AmaZulu.

As has been the case for the majority of the season, Luke Baartman (45+3′) gave the Urban Warriors the lead. However, they could not hold on, as Usuthu’s Celimpilo Ngema (79′) tied the score with Swallows (9th) on 19 points in 10th place.
