Algeria wrapped up their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations with an impressive 4-0 win over Burundi in a friendly match held in Togo on Tuesday.
Striker Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for the Fennecs in the 19th minute before former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead just before halftime. Islam Slimani extended Algeria’s advantage to 3-0 in the 84th minute, and Mohamed Amoura completed the rout with a goal in injury time.
Before this victory, Algeria had also secured a 3-0 win against Togo in another friendly game on Friday. After their surprising early exit from the group stage in the previous edition, the two-time African champions are considered strong contenders for the title this year.
Algeria have been placed in Group D for the tournament, alongside Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania.
