Uganda Vipers SC edge out Express FC to take control of table

Ugandan Premier League defending champions, Vipers SC, wrapped up matchday 27 with victory, beating Express 1-0 to take control of the table leadership, and ultimately the title charge.

Skipper Milton Karisa scored the game’s only goal on 20 minutes under St Mary’s Kitende Stadium floodlights to hand the reigning champions the initiative with just three matches left to play.Vipers now top standings, level on 49 points with BUL, with Kitara and SC Villa a point below.

KCCA and NEC are on 45 and 44 points respectively. The Venoms, who lead BUL by six goals, now have to just win their remaining matches to claim their third successive league title – a would-be first for them.

For Express, it couldn’t get worse. This was the Red Eagles fourth straight defeat, their 13th in 27 matches.

They stay ninth on 32 points. BUL, Kitara and Villa are next in action on Saturday at home to Gaddafi, Busoga United, and away to UPDF respectively, with leaders Vipers travelling to NEC.
