Tunisia emerged victorious as Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers resumed on Wednesday evening with five matches across the continent.
Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane’s late penalty gave them a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in the late kickoff in Tunis.
The Carthage Eagles won their third match in a row in Group H, giving them a two-point advantage at the top of the rankings.

In other games played on Wednesday,Sierra Leone won their opening Group A game 2-1 against Djibouti in El Jadida.
Goals from Curtis Davies and Augustus Kargbo gave Sierra Leone the victory but Djibouti got a consolatory goal from l Gabriel Dadzie.
Central African Republic achieved the identical result in Group I, defeating Chad 1-0 at Oujda thanks to Venuste Baboula’s first-half goal.
Namibia and Liberia shared the spoils in Johannesburg, drawing 1-1 in their Group H match thanks to goals from Tjipenandjambi Karuuombe and Terry Sackor, while Togo was held 1-1 in Lome by Group B rivals Liberia.
The hosts took the lead through Khaled Narey, but were pulled back by an own goal by Roger Aholou.
Poor Aholou is currently without a break after scoring an own goal in the last CAF Champions League final, which saw his team, Esperance de Tunis, lose 1-0 on aggregate to Al Ahly.
The World Cup Qualifiers will resume on Thursday, June 6, with nine matches throughout the continent, including Algeria hosting Guinea, a West African derby between Mali and Ghana in Bamako, and a potential thriller between Senegal and DR Congo.
