Uganda DONE DEAL: Mbabazi returns to take charge at Mbarara City

Ugandan Premier League side Mbarara City have announced the return of head coach Charles Mbabazi.

In a statement, the club said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as our new head coach on a two-year contract. Welcome to Mbarara City, Mbabazi!”

Mbabazi’s most recent role was at former champions Vipers SC, where he was sacked in April of this year after just four months in charge. Before that, he was at Arua Hill, where he served as both the head coach and a majority shareholder during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns.

Mbabazi, who has an extensive coaching career, previously managed Mbarara City between 2018-2019 and in 2021. His vast experience includes stints at Onduparaka, Soltilo Bright Stars, Masavu, and Lweza, as well as a spell with the Somalia National Team.

The appointment of Mbabazi comes as the Ankole Lions, who finished 11th on last season’s Ugandan Premier League log, look to build on their past successes and achieve new heights in the upcoming season.
