Uncategorised CAA: AFN Hammer Dangle On Ofili, Chukwuma

Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma did not attend the women’s 100m semi-final on Saturday at the current African Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Both athletes have given the Athletics Federation of Nigeria cause for concern over the years due to their lack of enthusiasm for Nigerian championships.

Chukwuma withdrew from the women’s 200m at the National Championships in Benin City, citing muscle soreness.

These two athletes are becoming something else, and it is time we let them know that they have to commit themselves to the national cause,” said a team coach.

“Rosemary gave us a lot of problems at the World Championships in Budapest and it ultimately caused us in the relay.

“It is about time the AFN whip them in line.”

The competitors provided no explanation for their DNS in the semi-finals after competing in the heats, however it could be related to the organisers’ inability to prepare properly, such as the lack of a starter’s gun. Marie Jose Ta Lou Smith, Ivorian best sprinter, also refused to compete in the semi-finals.

The AFN technical committee has convened to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ofili and Chukwuma’s decision not to race the 100m.
