Nigeria Some players are not enough good among Super Eagles – Nigeria Sports minister says

Nigeria Sports minister John Enoh believes not all the players called to the Super Eagles national team are good enough to wear the country’s jersey.

Nigeria is going through a difficult time since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final loss against Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles are having some disappointing results so far and that of June international break particularly affected the authorities who decided to part ways with Finidi George after a home draw (1-1) against South Africa and an away loss (1-2) to Benin Republic in Côte d’Ivoire.

But for Enoh, the coach is not the only problem Super Eagles have. The Sports minister also questioned the commitment of players born abroad who are representing Nigeria.

We have in the Super Eagles about 90 per cent of players not born in Nigeria. Do they have the spirit, the fire of a Nigerian player born in Nigeria?,” he asked in an interview with Eagle7 FM.

“There are some players in the team who are not good enough for the Super Eagles

“We talk of the quality of the coach, but what of the quality of the players in the team?”

Nigeria is yet to appoint a new coach while 2025 AFCON qualifying round draw will be held next Thursday, July 4 in Johannesburg with the qualifiers scheduled to start in September.
