CAF Champions League Eguma Upbeat Of Turning The Result Against Young African

Despite their 0-2 home loss, Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma is confident that his team can still win against Young African of Tanzania.

Speaking at the Godswill Akpabio stadium’s Media Lounge, Eguma recognized the loss but stated that they have their sights set on the rematch the following Sunday.

“Well, it was a bad day for us today, we didn’t get our acts right.

“But I will say it’s football. When the game started we had it in our hands, we had a lot of scoring chances in the first half, but my players couldn’t convert them until we regained the upper hand in the first half.

The head coach continued by discussing the game’s goals and lessons learned.

“I think we have to go back to the drawing board and work harder to ensure that we get our rhythm for the second leg.

“It’s not yet over, we will still bounce back in the next game.”

Due to injuries, the squad played without several important players on Sunday who might have made a difference, including Paul Aqua, the team’s leading scorer, Morris Chukwu, and Onoja Joseph.

Nyima Nwagua reiterated that there are lessons to be learned from the loss while keeping a laser-like concentration on the upcoming match in Tanzania to further support his coach’s point of view.

“This is not the result we prepared for, and now the game has ended and all our attention is drawn to the game that is before us.

“We will pick the positives from today’s game and try to work with them.

“Put away the negative ones and try to get a good result over there.

“Because right now we have no excuse but to go there and get ours back, as they did in our home.”
