UEFA Champions League Giroud Wants to Win Trophies With AC Milan Despite Age Factor

Olivier Giroud, a striker for AC Milan, is adamant about going back in time as he seeks to expand his list of achievements by winning a second Champions League championship.

The Frenchman, who will turn 37 in September, won a medal as an inactive substitute in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory against Premier League rival Manchester City in the final in 2021, and he has no intention of letting his advanced age lessen his desire for more success.

In a statement made at a press conference before their much anticipated semi-final matchup against neighbors Inter on Wednesday night, Giroud said: “Today I’m more motivated than ever.

“For me, it’s a great opportunity to win the Champions League.

“I’m [nearly] 37 years old, but I have the same motivations as a young boy.”

The Milan rivals will compete for the chance to play Real Madrid or City in the final in Istanbul next month.

Each team has won its respective Serie A “home” game this season, and Inter won the Coppa Italia in January, but Milan has won both previous meetings in Europe’s top club competition.

Giroud said: “A derby is always a special match. I am very proud of this Milan team and we hope to do something great tomorrow.”

Although Rafael Leao is suffering a thigh injury, coach Stefano Pioli is hoping for more of the same after leading his team through Tottenham and the recently crowned Italian champions Napoli to reach the final four.

Pioli said: “It will take great team-work, as we have seen in the last four Champions League matches.

“To get an exceptional result, you have to do an extraordinary job and we will try.”

Since November 2021, the teams have faced off seven times. Inter has performed significantly better, winning three games to Milan’s two, with two games ending in draws.
