No winner emerged in the Real Madrid vs Manchester City clash in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League on Tuesday evening after a match of giants at the Santiago Bernabéu (1-1).

As expected, Manchester City had the monopoly of the ball in the first half hour but really struggled to get any real scoring chances. Quite the opposite of Real Madrid who, on a flash of Eduardo Camavinga six minutes later (36th), will open the scoring thanks to a playful inspiration from his handyman, Vinicius Jr who shot Ederson from 25 meters. Carlo Ancelotti’s men defended this advantage until the break.

In the second half, the two coaches decided not to make any changes and are distributed in continuity. But by dint of suffering and pressed by increasingly threatening visitors, the Merengue gave in in the 67th minute after a loss of ball from Camavinga on a ball exit.

And it was Kevin De Bruyne, as often in major meetings for City, who beat his compatriot Thibaut Courtois with a strike just as sumptuous as that of Vinicius, but there low to the ground to put the Skyblues afloat.

The scorer did not change until the end of the meeting. The two teams meet next Wednesday for the return leg at the Etihad Stadium. The one that will determine the team that will join the final.
