AFCON AFCON 2023Q: South Sudan Hope For The Best Against The Gambia

On Wednesday in the afternoon, Group G will begin its separate 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with South Sudan and Gambia on the field at the Suez Canal Stadium.

Currently at the bottom of Group G, South Sudan’s effort to qualify for the 2023 Afcon only yielded three points from four games.

South Sudan must currently win both of their remaining games in order to have a chance of progressing out of the group.

On match day three of their qualifying campaign, South Sudan, also known as the Bright Stars, defeated Congo 2-1 at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debate in March.

South Sudan has overall dropped three of their last four games and has only managed one goal in their four qualification games.

South Sudan, a team trying to make a name for itself in African football, is seeking to upset Gambia in their upcoming match.

South Sudan is a relatively young team and has not yet established a solid reputation in African football,” the South Sudan Football Association said.

“However, they have been making steady progress in recent years and will be hoping to cause an upset against The Gambia, who are currently ranked higher in the Fifa world rankings.

“The first leg of their meeting ended in a 1-0 victory for Gambia, played on June 4th 2022 at Stade Lat Dior, Senegal.

At the Venue Stade Lat Dior in June of last year, Gambia won 1-0 in the first matchup between the two teams during Afcon qualifying.
