CAF Champions League Mosimane sends Al Ahly message on Champions League success

South African coach Pitso Mosimane has sent a message to congratulate former club Al Ahly for winning a record-extending 11th Caf Champions League title on Sunday.

Egyptian international Mohamed Abdelmoneim scored in the 78th minute to give the Egyptian giants a 1-1 draw against Wydad AC in Casablanca. The outcome meant the Red Devils won the fixture with a 3-2 aggregate score, having recorded a 2-1 victory at home in the first leg in Cairo last weekend.

Mosimane, who won back-to-back Champions League titles with Al Ahly took to his social media handle to praise their latest achievement by stating: “Congratulations to the Red Eagles, Red Army, Coach and the Technical Team, President M Bebo Khatib and the Board.

“For many years you have figured out how to win this Cup.”

Mosimane also led Al Ahly to two Caf Super Cups, one Egypt Cup, as well as two Club World Cup bronze medals. Meanwhile, USM Alger were honoured with a state banquet by Algeria President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the Presidential Palace after the Algiers-based club clinched their first-ever Caf Confederation Cup title.

The entire USM Alger fraternity, from the management, administrative, and playing staff as well as players and the dad to their former player Bilal Ben Hammouda who passed away in an accident last year, were honored by the Head of State on Sunday.

USM won the title, becoming the first-ever Algerian club to win the Confederation Cup title, after edging out Tanzania’s Young Africans on the away goal rule, following a 2-2 aggregate draw. They lost the return fixture 1-0 in Algiers last weekend, but their first leg 2-1 victory in Dar es Salaam saw them clinch the crown.
