AFCON Afcon 2023 Qualifier: Rwanda will go for a win against Mozambique – Ferrer

Rwanda coach Carlos Alos Ferrer has stressed the importance of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Mozambique at Huye Stadium on June 18.

According to the Spanish tactician, the Group L fixture will be a must-win for his side if they are to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the final to be held in Ivory Coast.

“This game is going to be different from the other games. We take decisions in every game and this won’t be like the games we have played previously,” Ferrer told journalists as quoted by Times Sport.

“I don’t have any doubt about this game. It is crucial for us and we must only go for a win. I can assure everyone that we are going to win. I am very happy with my group, there are some young talented players and they are combining well with those I already have. I think this team has a great future.”

On why he dropped captain Meddie Kagere, Ferrer said: “For the past six or seven games Meddie Kagere has played for the national team, he is the captain but this is a team where we look at others too. Any player who is in shape and consistent will be called.”

With the absence of the former Simba SC and Gor Mahia forward, Ferrer hinted that either Thierry Manzi, Djihad Bizimana, or Abdul Rwatubyaye will captain the team against the OS Mambas on Sunday.
