Nigeria Ighalo Ponders Return To Nigeria Premier League

Odion Ighalo, a former striker for the Super Eagles, stated he would be open to participating in the Nigerian Premier League NPL but only under the appropriate circumstances.

Ighalo revealed this during a recent interview with Elegbete TV.

Ighalo played for Julius Berger and Prime FC of Oshogbo in Lagos before traveling abroad in 2007. He arrived in Europe in 2007.

After his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal expired in May, the 34-year-old is currently an unsigned free agent.

The former Manchester United striker said the following when asked about the prospect of returning to the Nigerian league:

“I said if security is guaranteed, good coverage is assured and better officiating. Of course, [I will play].

“I have played in the league before, and it will be a great privilege for me to play again for another six months or one year before I end my career.

“But you do not want to be playing and be scared of your life or what is going to happen next.

“Then, it does not worth it. Because if I am going to play, I will not do it because I want to make money.

“I am not even going to take money from any team. I will just play because I want to fulfil something.”

Ahmed Musa, a former Super Eagles colleague of Ighalo’s, briefly played for Kano Pillars in 2021 after leaving Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr.
