The past three Champions League champions Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are among the twelve European clubs who will compete.

FIFA, the organization that oversees world football, announced the news on Friday.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, claims that the event would represent “the pinnacle” of top men’s club football.

Twelve European teams will compete, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City, the last three Champions League champions.

Although the tournament’s dates haven’t been set, June is the most likely month for it to take place.

Additionally, the USA will co-host the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico.

The World Leagues Forum expressed alarm over the “unilateral” decision by football’s global governing body to add the new event to the calendar, despite the European Club Association’s support for the plans.

Saudi Arabia will serve as the host nation for the 20th Club World Cup, which takes place from 12–22 December 2023.

The most recent competition, held in February in Morocco, was won by Real Madrid.

The event was also staged in the North African nation in 2013 and 2014, as well as in Brazil, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
