Kenyan Premier League Shabana records indicate Nivaton as chairman

Jared Nivaton is the bonafide chairman of promoted FKF Premier League side Shabana FC as per club elections held in 2011.

The Kisii-based Glamour Boys earned promotion to the top flight for next season after their impressive run in the National Super League (NSL). Shabana, nicknamed Tore Bobe, and, who are currently leading the 19-team table, stamped their ticket alongside Muranga Seal FC.

However, since their promotion, there has been a misunderstanding of who are the legitimate club officials, with two politicians already claiming to be the Patrons. When hosting the team for luncheon, CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu was declared the patron, the same case when Governor Simba Arati hosted the team for dinner.

However, investigations have now concluded that Nivaton is still the club’s chairman as per the documents in our possession while former FKF President Sam Nyamweya remains the club’s patron.

The last time Shabana went to elections was in 2011 and that is when Nivaton was elected to lead the club. When reached for a comment over the matter, secretary Omwando confirmed: “It is true Jared [Nivaton] is the club chairman as per minutes from the elections and I am the secretary,” adding: “During the elections in 2011, Sam [Nyamweya] was appointed the Patron, and it was approved by members and nothing has changed.

“For Shabana to get new officials it must go through the AGM, and so those claiming to have been given positions [especially the patron] position, must know they are being conned.

“Since 2011, we have never held any elections, and the club transited from the Society Act to Sports Act, with the same officials, who were elected during the 2011 exercise.”

Shabana returned to the Premier League with three matches to spare. They are due to face MCF on Wednesday at Gusii Stadium, Muranga Seal away on Sunday before concluding the season against Kisumu All Stars.
