Nigeria NNL Super 8 Matchday 2 Wrap: Pillars, Sporting Gain Promotion To NPL

Kano Pillars, Sporting Lagos, and Heartland FC have secured their ticket to will qualify to the Nigeria Premier League next season on Monday following the conclusion of Matchday 2 of the NNL Super 8.

Four-time NPFL winners, Kano Pillars alongside Katsina United both got relegated two seasons ago and were both seeking quick promotion back to the elite division after topping their various Group during the regular league season.

Katsina United were hoping to make it two win for two games against EFCC FC following a 2-1 win over DMD of Maiduguri on Sunday.

However, the anti-graft agency football club stunned the Chanji Boys with a 2-1 win to throw the Northern Conference open and stand the chance of picking one of the ticket ahead of their last game against DMD on Wednesday.

In the Southern Conference, FC One Rocket of Eket, Akwa Ibom State chance of booking a ticket to the top flight was halted after a 1-0 loss to Heartland FC.

One Rocket which also lost by the same margin in their opening game against Sporting Lagos dominated possession but could not make their chances count as Olasunkanmi Quadri 15th minute goal handed Heartland the chance of returning to the Nigeria Premier League.

In the second Southern Conference game of Matchday 2, Sporting Lagos defeated Stormers of Abeokuta 2-0 in the South-West derby to seal their place in the NPL next season.

After a goalless first half, the Lagos State based club broke the deadlock in the 55th minute before Saturday Okon scored the second goal in the 88th minute to hand Sporting Lagos the ticket.
