Akwa United got their Naija Super 8 game off to a winning starts after defeating Yobe Stars 2-1 in their opening Group B match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday.

With a forceful header from James Ajako’s ball from a corner kick, Chukwuebuka Anthony gave Akwa United the lead in the 33rd minute.

Cyril Olisema made it 2-0 with a beautiful finish from outside the area in the 42nd minute.

Yobe Stars scored on a superb free kick by Emmanuel James ten minutes into the second half to get one back.

Rivers United and Lobi Stars will play in the second Group B match.

Remo defeated Enyimba 2-1 on Friday in the opening match of the seven-day tournament.
