Nigeria Premier League club, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure has been revealed as one of the teams that will participate in this year’s ValueJet Cup Pre-season tournament.
This year’s ValueJet Cup will feature eight clubs who will lock horns in Ikenne for the mouthwatering prize in one of the pre-season tournaments ahead of the 2023/2024 kick-off for the Nigeria Premier League.
The organizer disclosed Sunshine Stars as one of the teams that will compete with other teams that have been announced so far via the ValueJet Cup social media.
The organizers tweeted; “@SunshineFCAkure performance in the CAF Champions League & Confederation Cup was historical, getting to the semifinal of the competitions was remarkable.
“They also produced an AFCON winner, Godfrey Oboabona. Sunshine will participate in the #ValueJetCup23.”
The ValueJet Cup organizers had on Wednesday revealed Shooting Stars as one of the clubs that will also play in the tournament.
Teams that have been unveiled that will feature in the tournament include Remo Stars, Rivers United, Shooting Stars, Kwara United Sporting Lagos, and Sunshine Stars.
According to the chairman of the organizing committee, Otunba Tade Azeez, the objective of the tournament is to create a competitive tournament for the clubs and help them prepare for the 2023/2024 NPL season as well as CAF tournaments.
The tournament is scheduled to start August 4- 10.
Remo Stars won the maiden edition of the tournament after a 3-0 victory against Smart City.
