Tanzania Ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Middendorp fills Pluijm’s void at Singida FG

Barely two days after splitting with their head coach Hans Van Pluijm, Singida Fountain Gate have confirmed Ernst Middendorp as their new head coach.

The 64-year-old German tactician, who has also handled South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Kaizer Chiefs, has been trusted to steer the Singida-based club to prosperity after a back pedal start in the Tanzanian Premier League. According to his available profile, he once coached South African side Kaizer Chiefs and holds a UEFA Pro License.

However, his main task will be to bring back his new team on a winning note after a staggering start in their two opening league fixture. Their recent match against debutants Tabora United ended in a 0-0 draw.

Also, the German trainer, who will be joined by former South Africa U20 coach Thabo Senong. is tasked to drive his new team to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage as they face Future FC of Egypt in the second preliminary round of the competition whose overall winner will advance to the last 16.

In the 2019-20 season, Middendorp and Chiefs lost out on the league title on the last day having led the DStv Premiership for more than 12 months. Despite leading the title race by 12 points at one point, Amakhosi buckled under pressure and allowed Mamelodi Sundowns to snitch the title.
