After clinching the Africa Football League (AFL) Fans of the Tournament award, Tanzanian giants Simba SC has urged their supporters to continue behaving well and be ‘smart.’
The decorated prize was received by Simba Chairman of the Board of Directors, Salim Abdallah ‘Try Again’ after the AFL final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca in Pretoria, South Africa on Sunday, which saw Sundowns clinching the title after a 2-0 win.
In his remarks on Monday, the club’s Media and Communication Manager Ahmed Ally called on Simba to say the award is a testimony that their fans are role models to all football fans on the continent.
“First, we are excited that our passionate fans have been voted as the best in this year’s AFL tournament, it is good news to all of us and we are grateful,” said Ally, adding: “On behalf of the management, I want to take this platform to encourage them to continue behaving well and at the same time be smart because they are the mirror of all football fans in Africa.”
He continued: “They (fans) have done their job well by convincing FIFA and CAF that they deserve the award as such, they must keep on being exemplary fans in both good and bad times. Recently, things have not been going well among our supporters and this is the best moment for them to show their maturity of how great they are.”
Again, Ally narrated that after cementing their superiority outside the pitch, they are now working on procedures that will make their team strong on the pitch and be named the best team on the continent. In another development, he disclosed that the exercise to find a new coach has reached an advanced stage, and this week, they will parade him to the public.
